Course summary

Teach Year 3-6 students how to use infographics to explore and represent information, data or knowledge. Infographics can be used as a teaching and learning tool in any primary subject.

Infographics are visual representations of information, data or knowledge. They have grown in popularity because they communicate information quickly and clearly. In this hands-on course, you will build your ability to use infographics as a learning tool in your classroom. You’ll discover how to understand infographics and create your own.

You will learn:

  • How to use infographics to help Year 3-6 students understand data, compare texts, express a point of view or summarise learning.
  • How to read and understand seven different types of infographics.
  • How to design, create and publish infographics in any subject area
  • How to use a range of lesson plans to teach infographics.

Course time:

This course will take you 2 hours to complete. Enjoy it in one session or spread it out over a few weeks. You will have ongoing access via your personal dashboard.

Accreditation:

This course is mapped to the Professional Standards for Teachers. It is accredited for teacher professional development hours in the following states and territories:

Proficient Teacher – all states and territories except NSW:

  • 2.1.2 Apply knowledge of the content and teaching strategies of the teaching area to develop engaging teaching activities.
  • 3.3.2 Plan and implement well-structured learning and teaching programs or lesson sequences that engage students and promote learning.
  • 3.4.2 Select and/or create and use a range of resources, including ICT, to engage students in their learning.

This course is not currently accredited in NSW (NESA). However, it can be counted toward NESA PD elective hours.

This course is accredited by TQI for 2 hours of professional development for teachers in the ACT for 2024.

Course instructors

Mark Drummond from Cool Australia is your course teacher. He has worked in the education sector for over 11 years as a classroom teacher, Leader of Pedagogy within an Ed-Tech startup and as an educational consultant. Mark is an absolute science nerd and loves talking about dinosaurs as much as he loves talking about education (which is a lot)!

Sana Hijazi is a specialist Mathematics and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teacher. She worked in the ICT industry before becoming a classroom teacher. Sana has also been an education consultant for ICT in NSW schools. She facilitates professional development workshops for teachers about how to better integrate ICT into the curriculum. Sana is passionate about innovative professional development that supports teachers to deliver quality education.
